One Box One Chair

Designer Sungun Chang came up with a portable seating that recently won this year’s red dot award for design concept. Capitalising on the strength of corrugated cardboard, One Box, One Chair is a dual-use box that transforms into a chair (and back again) with a few simple folds. The original structure of the box is maintained, and the chair can easily be converted back into a box when necessary. For instance, a student could use a box as a chair when she is living in a dorm, and use it as a container when she is moving out.

The chair is created by pushing one corner of the box into an arch shape. The main existing fold lines of the box are maintained, even though its shape is reconfigured. The transformation method avoids the need for cutting and extensive gluing, and is quickly done.
