Our friends at ja+u recently informed us of this pleat-friendly project by Spanish architects Vaillo + Irrigaray. The Biomedical Research Center is a functional rectilinear block with an assembly hall, library and administration on the ground floor and research labs above.
The building’s key architectural feature is the exterior louvers constructed of 3mm-thick perforated aluminum panels arranged in a tessellated origami pattern. The folded facade was designed to screen the glazing along the sides of the building from the sun.
