<p>The <strong>DIY Reykjavik</strong> pavilion is a temporary installation initiated and designed by <strong>Arnaldur Scram</strong> and <strong>Simon Stigsby</strong> of New York-based design  firm <strong><a title="Shift" href="http://www.shiftarchitecture.net/">Shift</a></strong>.</p>
<p><span id="more-4332"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/diy-reykjavik-pavilion-iceland-architecture.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4338" title="diy-reykjavik-pavilion-iceland-architecture" src="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/diy-reykjavik-pavilion-iceland-architecture.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="382" /></a></p>
<p>Constructed with one thousand aluminum triangles, each varying in size, shape, fold, and configuration, the pavilion was designed and processed through a variety of 3D software, laser-cut then folded and riveted by hand.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/diy-reykjavik-pavilion-shift-architecture.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4340" title="diy-reykjavik-pavilion-shift-architecture" src="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/diy-reykjavik-pavilion-shift-architecture.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="382" /></a></p>
<p>Aluminum was deliberately chosen due to its unique structural challenges, its abundance and recyclability, but also for its potential to generate debate about the current and future use of the material, specifically in Iceland.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/diy-reykjavik-pavilion-architectural-design.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-4337" title="diy-reykjavik-pavilion-architectural-design" src="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/04/diy-reykjavik-pavilion-architectural-design.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="382" /></a></p>
<p style="text-align: left;"><strong>Design statement</strong>:&#8221;The project is about testing the possibilities that ultimately arise with a collapse Iceland has seen. The modern ideological system which governed Iceland in every way has failed and Iceland is now about actualizing opportunities, not admiring false visions. How do designers navigate within this new reality? Are we going to look backwards and let the future happen or are we going to find a way to navigate forward using what we have at hand? DIY Reykjavik pavilion is about political controversy, new economy, new technology and community to ask questions about Iceland’s future.”</p>

<p><strong>Designer&#8217;s words:</strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">A surface made of aluminium and leather turns into a lounge chair by folding a few times. It is manufactured in Germany and available in three different kinds of buffalo skin. In manufacture, recent computer-aided operations are paired with specific workmanship and generates individual items with a first-class finish and a personal note.</p>

<p><strong>About the Dua Collection:</strong></p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The <a href="http://www.dua-collection.com/">Dua</a> collection combines ideas from name designers (Alexander Esslinger, Sebastian Däschle, Arne Amstfeld, Chritian Poppel, Tobias Juretzek), who each have their own concepts of thinking and working. Dua gives insights into their basic research and creative powers. The production is based on the principle of short distances and personal contact in Germany. This rests upon the idea of economic and ecological balance. Thereby, recent computer-aided operations are paired with specialized manual skills. dua attaches great importance to the storyline of a design. Beyond that, dua acts as an interior decorator. By doing so, we design and realise — together with our partners from industry and art — living spaces and business premises, exhibitions, bars and stage designs.</p>

<p>Thanks to designer <a href="http://naokoogawa.com/">Naoko Ogawa</a> who provided the images of her <strong>Gather</strong> collection: a fun and versatile set of accessories that emphasizes on how we interact with our clothes.<span id="more-3112"></span></p>
<p style="text-align: center;">
<p style="text-align: left;">
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/naoko-ogawa-gather-jewelry-flat.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-3177" title="naoko-ogawa-gather-jewelry-flat" src="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/naoko-ogawa-gather-jewelry-flat-682x1024.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="823" /></a></p>
<p>Comprising of patterned aluminum plates in squares and circles, <strong>&#8216;Gather&#8217;</strong> allows the user to create folds on a garment, even hold two or more garments together by pinching the plates on any parts of the shirt, dress or scarf, and all done to the user&#8217;s whims and fancies.</p>
<p style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/naoko-ogawa-gather-jewelry-pinch.jpg"><img class="aligncenter size-large wp-image-3178" title="naoko-ogawa-gather-jewelry-pinch" src="http://www.pleatfarm.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/01/naoko-ogawa-gather-jewelry-pinch-682x1024.jpg" alt="" width="550" height="823" /></a></p>
<p>Designer&#8217;s note:</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">The plate transforms the style of your clothes in many different ways, depending on not only your everyday emotions, but also the pattern or design of the plate, including new patterns of the plate drawn by crush as well as metal fatigue itself. You can enjoy an unlimited amount of designs on the silver plate and clothes since they never change in the same way.</p>
<p style="padding-left: 30px;">It is my intention to make this jewelry enjoyably sensual, to let your hand touch and feel your body line (or silhouette of your clothes) with this plate and then to redefine it through crushing. By doing so, you find the idea of your everyday clothes destroyed and / or turned into something new with the beautiful gathers which you could not imagine or predict. The gathers made by the redefinition of the crush creates a new body line (or silhouette of your clothes) and wraps you up for the day.</p>
